Art Journals 2016

I've got some more art journal pages to show you today.

This will be a quick one as I didn't make tutorials for these, but I'm proud so I'll post them:

This one is for Color Me Positive:

The challenge was to cut out words.

And this one is for Embrace Your Art:

The prompt was "favorite drink" and the challenge was to use bubble wrap.

And lastly (and my favorite) is for Journal52, week 6:

The prompt for Journal52 for week 6 was "above your head."

I explained why I'm behind at Journal52 on my new creative diary blog. Feel free to check it out. There is a link on the sidebar.

I'll have some more tutorials up soon, so come back.

Tag Tuesday - Layers

Another tag for Tag Tuesday. This weeks theme is Layers.

Here's what I've got:

And here's how I did it:

I made a background just using acrylic paints:

I cut some sheet music using zig zag scissors:

I painted my cut sheet music with Inktense blocks:

I glued my sheet music on my tag, as well as some lace:

I added some washi tape I got at the dollar store:

I punched out some butterflies:

I glued on my butterflies, along with some German scrap and rhinestones:

And that's it!

Dryer Sheet Background Tutorial

I have another background tutorial for you all! I know it's been awhile. Eventually, I'll get through my massive list of backgrounds.

Today I'm going to show you how I do a dryer sheet background:

This background is pretty cool because it gives some texture and you can see the individual threads that make up the dryer sheet.

Here are the supplies you need:

🔸dryer sheets
🔸white card stock
🔸glimmer mists or spray colors
🔸a stencil
🔸mod podge

Because the dryer sheets are folded, you might want to stick your dryer sheet between a towel and iron it. I didn't bother because I knew the crease would come out eventually.

Step 1: Lay your dryer sheet on a protective work space and spray it with color:

Step 2: After its all colored, I think it's fun to spray a different color through a stencil.

Step 3: Let it dry.
(Be careful if you use a heat gun. Make sure it's far away, otherwise the dryer sheet will melt)

Step 4: Glue it to card stock.

Step 5: Cut it out and that's it!

Here is what I made from my background:

It's an atc I made for a "spring" swap.

Let me know if you have any questions.

Embrace Your Art and The DLP Week 7

I'm a little late getting my week 7 art journal challenges finished but here they are.

I'll start with Embrace Your Art. Last weeks prompt was "your goals" and the challenge was "to add stitching."
I decided to take the prompt pretty literal and actually state my goals in writing.

And this is how I made it:

I did a "wet on wet" background (I plan on making a step by step tutorial for it someday soon.)

The challenge was to add stitching. I didn't feel like getting out my sewing machine. So I hand stitched to make spaces for my different goals:

I picked out some alpha stickers to title my page:

I used a couple of my favorite apps to make and print the words I used:

After I glued everything down, I went around the words with metallic gel pen:

And there's  my page!

I also have my week view page done for The Documented Life Project:

The challenge for the week was to use several shades of one color.
So I got out some water soluble pastels that I recently bought and colored each day a different shade of green:

I stamped it with a dragonfly stamp a couple of times:

I stuck on a dragonfly sticker too.

And here are my pages once more:
