"Doors" Art Journal Page

Not too long ago, when I was looking for some different art journaling prompts. I thought about looking into some of the older prompts of my current 2016 art journal challenges. I was able to find the old prompt list for the documented life project in 2014. I decided to run with it and I made my rendition of their first prompt:

For the challenge we were to incorporate an image of our front door.

Here's how I made this page:

I painted my card stock a pink color. And then mod podged a decorated tissue paper over the pink.

Next, I got ready to print out several images of doors, including a picture of my own front door, plus some quotes about doors:

I painted all my doors and quotes with a gloss medium:

I wanted all the doors and quotes to be different heights of dimension so I glued zero to three pieces of foam on the backs of my images:

Once I had all of them glued to my page, I wrote on the picture of my own front door:

And that's how I did it!

Embrace Your Art, Week 12

The Embrace Your Art, week 12 prompt is "your favorite season. The challenge was to use rub ons.

My favorite season is fall. I love thanksgiving. And the town I come from is known as "the city of trees", and it's awesome when all those trees turn colors.

This is my entry:

It's a little different, I know. In hindsight, I would have done it a bit differently.

But here's how I did it:

I started by painting my page dark brown:

Next, I put a white rub on background over half the page. If I had to do it again, I would have had the rub on cover the whole page:

I painted a tree with branches on the plain side of the page:

I added some foil leaves and some fall colored dots:

I printed out the words "I love fall", cut them out, glued them on, and outlined them with water color crayon:

And that's how that went:

Altered Door Knob Hanger

I made this altered door hanger for the new challenge blog, A Beautiful Mess. Their themes are always anything goes. Go check them out.

Here is the gist of how I made it:

I bought the door hanger at the dollar store. It was made of craft foam. So my first step was to gesso it:

I painted it a neutral color and then sponge painted it a different neutral color:

I found a couple of caveman backgrounds online. I printed them out and used them as a background border:

I added gold string to the borders:

As well as to the hole of the hanger:

I added some rhinestones:

I still had to color the cavegirl:

After I attached her I was all set to be finished!

Embrace Your Art - Week 11

I had a lot of fun with Embrace Your Art's week 11. The challenge was "ripped paper" and the prompt was "your favorite place."

Here's what I came up with:

Generally, my favorite place to be is home.

Here's how I made it:

I ripped up a piece of printed sheet music:

I collaged it onto a piece of card stock:

I water colored it:

I cut a square shape out of a book page for the house and used distressed ink around the edges:

I cut out a printed door:

I added the other embellishments and went around the page with a metallic silver pen:

And that's about it!
