Color Me Positive, Week 19

I'm only a few weeks behind on both Color Me Positive and Embrace Your Art art journal challenges. I'm afraid that lag will only increase. Why?

I have started an intense degree program in graphic arts at Full Sail University. I am sooo excited. I hope this new adventure leads to some great and interesting work so I can further help support my family.

And who knows, perhaps this blog will go from  mixed media tutorials to awesome graphic printables  and my own store. I'd love it if you all wished me good luck.

Anyway, the Color Me Positives challenge for week 19 was to use a feather. Here is my page:

I started by painting my page a light blue color:

I painted square and rectangle shapes with a darker shade of blue making a sort of puzzle with the shapes:

I loosely outlined the shapes with a brown alcohol marker:

And then I loosely made a line in white between the shapes using a chalk marker:

I had my cricut cut a feather shape and painted it brown:

I glued on my quote:

I outlined my words with gold glue gun glue:

I attached a dark gold metal corner piece to my page. To keep my color balance, I added black glitter glue to my gold outline to darken it a little:

I also ended up adding a few streaks of the glittered gold glue to my feather and then I was done:

Embrace Your Art, Week 19

The Embrace Your Art Daily week 19's prompt was "your best feature." The challenge was to use a sponge. Here is my page:

I had to ask my husband what he thought my best feature was. Once we decided we thought it should be personality instead of physical, we both agreed it's my silliness that makes me stand out. Of course sometimes this isn't always a good thing.

I started my page with just a cover of a dark slate blue:

I sponge painted it with a lighter pearlescent blue:

After it was covered with this sponge painting, I wanted to zap it with some spray inks through a stencil. However when I tried this I had a bit of an issue with the nozzle of my homemade glimmer mist. This is what turned out. I still thought it turned out cool tho:

I semi- watered down some pink paint and made a rectangle. I wanted the blue to show a bit behind it:

I decided to make what was supposed to be some kind of flower. I painted it with a Martha Stewart light yellow and added flat back pearls to the tips:

I wrote my words around the focal point of my page and decided it was done.

2016 Art Journals Week 2

I still need to upload some older posts on this new blogger site, so I'll tell you I've been participating in some weekly art journal prompt challenges. Here I have week 17.

The first one I'm going to show you is for Embrace Your Art. The prompt was "what you're addicted to". And the challenge was to use crayons.

I think I'm addicted to loving my fam more than I am addicted to love, per say.

Anyway, I decided to use water color crayons because they're more fun I think.

I also hand drew my words. I do this by typing them into a font program and copying it.

My other journal page is for Color Me Positive. They're challenge was for us to use a hand made stamp, however I completely spaced doing that while making my page. Oh well.

I used some other fun stuff.

I used rub ons:

And I also used black glitter hot glue gun glue for around the middle heart:

I had a fun time making these and so far and I'm only a couple of weeks behind.

Embrace Your Art, Week 12

The Embrace Your Art, week 12 prompt is "your favorite season. The challenge was to use rub ons.

My favorite season is fall. I love thanksgiving. And the town I come from is known as "the city of trees", and it's awesome when all those trees turn colors.

This is my entry:

It's a little different, I know. In hindsight, I would have done it a bit differently.

But here's how I did it:

I started by painting my page dark brown:

Next, I put a white rub on background over half the page. If I had to do it again, I would have had the rub on cover the whole page:

I painted a tree with branches on the plain side of the page:

I added some foil leaves and some fall colored dots:

I printed out the words "I love fall", cut them out, glued them on, and outlined them with water color crayon:

And that's how that went:

Embrace Your Art - Week 11

I had a lot of fun with Embrace Your Art's week 11. The challenge was "ripped paper" and the prompt was "your favorite place."

Here's what I came up with:

Generally, my favorite place to be is home.

Here's how I made it:

I ripped up a piece of printed sheet music:

I collaged it onto a piece of card stock:

I water colored it:

I cut a square shape out of a book page for the house and used distressed ink around the edges:

I cut out a printed door:

I added the other embellishments and went around the page with a metallic silver pen:

And that's about it!

Art Journals 2016

I've got some more art journal pages to show you today.

This will be a quick one as I didn't make tutorials for these, but I'm proud so I'll post them:

This one is for Color Me Positive:

The challenge was to cut out words.

And this one is for Embrace Your Art:

The prompt was "favorite drink" and the challenge was to use bubble wrap.

And lastly (and my favorite) is for Journal52, week 6:

The prompt for Journal52 for week 6 was "above your head."

I explained why I'm behind at Journal52 on my new creative diary blog. Feel free to check it out. There is a link on the sidebar.

I'll have some more tutorials up soon, so come back.
